If the Librarian doesn’t have the book you need, you can simply mine the Lectern and place it again to change the Enchanted Book offered by the Librarian. You can repeat this process as many times as needed till you get your book as long as you haven’t traded it with the Librarian before.

How to Make a Lectern in Minecraft

1. Get the materials

To make a Lectern in Minecraft, you need to have the following:

4 Wooden Slabs
A Bookshelf
Crafting Table

Wooden Slabs

You can use any kind of wood for your Wooden Slabs. Place 3 Wooden Planks of the same kind on a horizontal pattern in your Crafting Table to get 6 Wooden Slabs.

If you don’t already have a Crafting Table, you can make one by placing Wooden Planks on the 2×2 Crafting Grid. You’ll be using this in the crafting process.

The tricky part of making a Lectern in Minecraft is the Bookshelf.

2. Make a Bookshelf

To make a bookshelf, you need 6 wood planks and 3 books. First, get the easy one by mining some Wood and turning it into Wood Planks. Then you can set that aside and make some books with Leather and Paper.

Getting Leather

Leather can be obtained from cows. So look for a Grassland and start searching for them. Not all cows drop leather when slain, so keep hunting until you find 3 leather. Then, you will need paper which can be obtained from Sugarcane.

Getting Sugarcane

Sugarcane can be found beside Riverbeds and Water Source Blocks. You can keep looking until you have enough or farm them by growing them on sand or dirt. You need 3 Leather and 9 pieces of Paper for 3 books.

Crafting to Make a Bookshelf

Open your Crafting Menu and place 3 Sugarcane in a row to make Paper.

The recipe for a Book is pretty easy since you can just place 1 Leather and 3 Paper anywhere in the Crafting Grid to make one.

Once you have 3 books, place them on the center row of your Crafting Table and fill the remaining slots with Wood Planks to make a Bookshelf.

3. Craft a Lectern

Open your Crafting Table once again and place the Bookshelf on the center slot. Fill the top row with Wood Slabs and place one Wood Slab directly below the Bookshelf.

It won’t matter what kind of slab you are using, as it won’t change the appearance of your Lectern.
