TNT can be obtained by crafting it using gunpowder and sand or by finding it in chests in generated structures such as temples or mineshafts. Players often use TNT to create traps, mine resources, or clear large areas quickly as it can destroy 70% of vulnerable blocks around it.

However, it can also be a dangerous tool if not used carefully, as it can easily destroy buildings or harm the player themselves. That’s why it’s very important to learn how to light TNT in Minecraft properly.

How to Light TNT in Minecraft

Are you prepared to launch a major Minecraft explosion? Lighting TNT can be tricky, but with the correct approach, it’s simple to produce explosive effects.

How to Light TNT in Minecraft

Method 1: Light TNT Using Flint and Steel

Light TNT Using Flint and Steel

Let’s start off with a simple, easy, and common way to light TNT in Minecraft. Craft Flint and Steel using one flint and one iron ingot. Then, place your TNT and equip your Flint and Steel and right-click on the TNT to light it.

After lighting it, you have around 4 seconds before the TNT explodes. So make sure you sprint to a safe distance out of its explosion radius before it goes kaboom.

Method 2: Light TNT Using Fire and Lava

Just like in Real life, when a TNT in Minecraft catches fire, it will explode. You can do the same in Minecraft using lava. Pour a bucket of lava near the TNT, and it will be lit when it catches fire.

Method 3: Light TNT Using Flaming Arrow

If you want to play things safe, you can even light TNT from afar.  All you need is a bow and flaming arrows. There are two ways you can do this. For the first method, you would need an Enchanting Table and use it to enchant your bow to make it shoot flame arrows.

Alternatively, you can build a fire at a safe distance near the TNT and shoot your regular arrows through the fire so that it flames up. Once it hits the TNT, it will detonate.

Method 4: Light TNT Using Redstone Circuit

Light TNT Using Redstone Circuit

Redstone Dust can be used to make a Redstone Circuit. A basic circuit can be a trail of Red Dust that is up to 15 blocks long. To do this, you need to find Redstone Ores, which are abundant underground on layers 0-15. It requires an Iron Pickaxe or better to be mined. 1 Redstone ore will produce about 9 piles of Redstone Dust.

Then, you need a switch mechanism to activate the circuit. The simplest one is a stone button which can be crafted by putting one stone on the center grid of a crafting table.

Now that you have all the components of your circuit, begin by placing your Stone Switch where you can use it as this will serve as your blasting remote.

Next, place redstone dust adjacent to your remote and connect it to your TNT. The Redstone trail should be less than 15 blocks long.

Now that your basic circuit is done go to your switch mechanism and press it to see a Tom and Jerry simulation explosion. You can also use more complicated circuits using Redstone Torch to create a series of TNT explosions.

Method 5: Another TNT Explosion

Of course, one explosion will cause a chain of detonations. As long as another TNT is within a detonating TNT’s explosion radius, it will explode as well. Unlike other methods, this will make other TNTs explode almost instantly.
