It could be one of two common things; You are joining VIP servers that you’re not authorized to join in. Or Roblox is experiencing an unexpected error that could’ve caused the downtime.

The error message comes in two variations:

You do not have permission to join this game. (Error Code: 524)

roblox error code 524 type 1

Not authorized to join this game. (Error Code: 524)

roblox error code 524 type 2

Is there a difference between the two? As far as we know, when you get the former, it usually means you’re trying to join a private server or a game server with VIP server players. The latter, on the other hand, is what we usually see when there’s an actual problem with the Roblox game server sites and websites.

What can you do to resolve the Roblox Error Code 524?

We have come up with a list of tips that you can try to fix Roblox error code 524.  But before we begin, let’s make sure that the problem isn’t coming from your end. Here’s something you need to check first:

Test your Internet

Are you using a wired connection to play Roblox, or do you play online games over Wi-Fi? More often than not, poor internet connection is the most common culprit when it comes to Error 524. Here are some things you could try:

  • Power cycle router/modem to reset internet connection issues
  • Use Port Forwarding on your router to prevent faulty internet connection
  • Allow access to the firewall to minimize game without error(s)
  • Uninstall/Reinstall Roblox Player to reset game client errors
  • Check the Roblox Player App version if it’s up-to-date
  • Make sure your Roblox account is not restricted (18+)

Port Forwarding

Here’s a quick guide for port forwarding using your router. Follow the simple solution listed down below. Check browser version, mobile version, and console version before continuing.

Step 1: Access your router control panel (Refer to router manufacturer’s documentation to access it)

Step 2: Search for UPnP in your router settings and make sure that the private sections are secure

Step 3: Search for port forwarding and input your computer’s IP address in the space provided and search for the UDP and TCP ports

Step 4: Input the following in its respective ports:

PC:

TCP: 3074

UDP: 49152-65535

For Xbox One and Mobile Users:

TCP: 3074

UDP: 88, 500, 3074, 3544, 4500

Step 5: Save settings and restart your modem/router (if necessary). Test connection using your default browser and check if the issue is resolved.

Port Forwarding on Windows (App)

For PC users, we recommend trying this out if you have no access to your router settings. While it might not give the best compatibility, nor will it guarantee getting rid of connection timeout issues, it’s still worth checking out.

Step 1: Download and install the Simple Port Forwarding App.

Step 2: Run the app and select your router from the list of models

Step 3: Look for port forwarding and input your computer/console/mobile’s IP address in the space provided and search for the UDP and TCP ports

Step 4: Add an app name, then input the following in its respective ports:

PC:

TCP: 3074

UDP: 49152-65535

For Xbox One and Mobile Users:

TCP: 3074

UDP: 88, 500, 3074, 3544, 4500

Step 5: Press the reset button on your router and restart your computer. Disregard the router panel for now. Test connection if everything is stable

Pro-tip: for the best connectivity, we highly recommend using a wired connection to avoid server latency and connection issues.

Firewall

For Roblox PC users, make sure that you have added Roblox to the exception list. This is to ensure that there are no issues when connecting to server VIP despite having a weak internet connection from time to time. Here’s how to get it done:

Step 1: Search for ‘firewall’ on the search box and look for Firewall and Network Protection

Step 2: Under Firewall & Network Protection, click on Allow an app through firewall.

Step 3: Click on Change Settings on the top so you can make changes

Step 4: Look at the bottom part of the window and click on Allow another app

Step 5: Once the new window is open, click on browse

Step 6: Search for your Roblox Player Beta and Roblox Player Launcher and add them to the list

Step 7: Put a check on Private for both Roblox apps

Step 8: Close the window and restart your computer

Pro-Tip: some third-party antivirus software comes with its own firewall. Be sure to do the same process or disable that firewall completely. We recommend using Windows firewall to minimize connection issues in multiplayer.

Check Roblox Server Status

Now that we are sure that there are no internet issues on your end and that your internet speed is on par with the game application requirements. We can now focus on the game functionality and investigate the game error code even further.

  • Head over to Roblox Status Checker to know if everything is operational. Link can be found here.

Get VIP Access or Invite from a Friend

If the server status is all green, that would mean that your connectivity issues might be because of the lack of VIP access. When it comes to Game VIP sessions, it requires additional credentials to be granted full access to the server. These are very common for exclusive game servers on Roblox.

Fortunately for you, the most common fix for this is to get an invitation from friends who have access to the server. You can also try availing of VIP access by learning more about the server you want to join. They usually leave the information on the landing page.
